Choosing The Right Gear For Surfing

Surfing is all about style and poise. The sport itself is all about how comfortable you can look even when you are performing some of the most complicated tricks around. Individuals are judged on not only the difficulty of the moves and tricks they perform but also your individual styles.

This also translates to surf clothing. Clothing has developed through history to display someones unique and individual style. Some of the top brands involved in the urban clothing brand like WESC, Billabong, Animal and Roxy.

Surf clothing is a casual style of clothing that is enjoyed mainly by the younger generation. Some of the best items of this type of clothing include items such as flip flops, board shorts and bikinis for the girls. For the avid surfer there is also a lot of additional gear you can purchase beyond the standard surf board.

This includes items such as a wetsuit, which will allow you to go surfing for most of the year not just the summer months and still stay warm. A decent quality wetsuit can last you a good few years and provide your skin with vital protection against the element when you’re out in the water.

More and more people are now opting to look for their clothing on the internet. This is mainly due to the fact that there is far more selection on the internet than in any shop. The best part is that you can see a huge range of clothing online and use search features to quickly compare the different items available.

The only thing about shopping online is that you can’t be sure your clothes will fit perfectly because you don’t have a chance to try them on. It is usually recommended that you look for clothing online due to a larger selection but then tack some time to find a store that stocks the item so you can get the right size for you

Europe’s First Artificial Reef

In 2008 the Bournemouth Borough Council decided the town of Boscombe needed an extra edge to attack tourists. In an attempt to spruce up the sea side town they decided to build Europe’s first artificial surf reef. It was thought that this would attract new visitors to the area who could want to keep coming back.

Boscombe is part of Bournemouth which is a coastal town in south central England and sites just off the English Channel. The English Channel is not renowned for its waves and surfers have often preferred to stick to the south west which faces the Atlantic Ocean. When it comes to dusting off the rusty surfboards surfers will often flock to Cornwall.

The reef is constructed by several large sand bags placed on the sea bed to form a curve. It was hoped the reef would make the existing waves taller and give them a better shape for surfing. These sand bags were never designed to create waves. At just over 220 meters from the beach this innovative structure is just over the size of one football pitch.

However, this pioneering new concept hasn’t quite brought the bikini clad tourists the scheme was hoping for. Many people are claiming they haven’t actually seen a real increase in waves. The overall size and shape of the waves it was providing was also criticised too. When the waves are being enhanced by the reef surfers are saying the waves are too high and not safe to ride. Local residents are now angry at council plans to evaluate the reefs designs after its shortcomings were highlighted. As the reef was originally funded by council money and it went over budget residents are reluctant to see any more of their tax money spent on it.

Despite this the reef still has its fans that are sure it’s working. As the reef is only designed to enhance existing waves many people forget it’s not a wave machine and cannot create them from still water. The winter months will offer slightly rougher water which is when the reef will be better able to help produce smoother higher waves.. Unfortunately this doesn’t help pull in the summer loving flip flop wearing tourists when they’re needed.
